Magic Trackpad - initial impressions

What is it probably everyone knows. If you suddenly missed this most curious product, then you should read www.apple.com/magictrackpad

It always seemed to me that Apple’s cursor-pointing devices didn’t work. All of their mice that I tried were terrible including the last. But the touchpad in MB / MBP seems to me very, very successful. I don’t know about you, but to me it completely replaces the mouse on the laptop. It is clear that I was looking forward to the arrival of the stand-alone touchpad / trackpad, and I waited :) Amiable apple delivered this device to my door 16 hours after the order.

Now about the main thing and immediately to the conclusion: it really can be used and it is convenient. Although everything is not so direct and obvious. And if by points, then I turned off the mouse and the last 3 hours I use only this t-pad. The right hand is already sore (brush) and is trying to adapt, while there is a feeling that the grinding process is completely real and final. I will give myself and fall time until the end of the week, unless of course the hand falls off earlier. I hope to get used to it, because there is undoubtedly something in this mouse substitute. Impressions of a large surface, a clear but not overly sensitive button, are the most positive. By the way, the button seemed harder to me than on MBP and it remarkably withstands the weight of the brush without false clicks.

Gestures work the same way as on notebook touch-pads, i.e. well and correctly. The width of the surface is enough to run my 27 "screen from end to end without lifting a finger, that is, in one movement. The pointing accuracy is quite decent, the cursor behaves as expected and precisely hits the target.

It is especially convenient to control the pad in geek and professional programs, where there are a lot of keyboards, hot buttons and sometimes you need a mouse, your hand doesn’t have to go far and always in about the same place.

With all this honey that I poured, the impressions of use are so far conflicting. This turned out to be completely different from a laptop. It is difficult to explain why, but subjectively - this is something completely different. Although the magic trackpad did not cause me such hatred and rejection as the magic mouse, it also didn’t fully satisfy me. I hope this is a temporary phenomenon, but on the other hand, the aluminum bt keyboard at one time did not cause any dark thoughts and instantly fell in love and on the fingers. With the t-pad, alas, this is not.

The deciding factor for me will be whether I can get used to the new position of the right hand. There is nothing particularly unexpected and special here. Not so long ago I got used to the Anywhere MX mouse and completely got used to it in a couple of days. Let's give this new chance, at least until the next release of radio t.
