Round Camera: Introduction

There is such a thing in Moscow called Circular Cinema Panorama - this is a cinema in which cinema is shown not on a flat screen, but on a “cylinder” around the entire cinema.

Then the people may be outraged that "Everything is garbage! Such a bulk! ”And Google will remember Holodek, Igloo and a couple of other systems ... Or he won’t remember ...
But one of the tricks of this cinema is that it has been working on the old, good film for over 50 years!

True, the last film was shot in the 90s and now many films are in terrible condition ...

And about a year and a half ago, Siora hit the head with the thought that “We must do something!” And it was decided to build a MODERN round-the-clock camera!

First of all, the question arose about iron ...

    Cameras

    Option 1

It was decided to make the most “penny” option using WEB-cameras a thousand and a half with 2 megapixels of resolution ... The

plug occurred after buying the first two: they disappeared from the sale!
Apparently the New Year was the fault and the people suddenly decided that such a camera is the best gift ?!
    HZ.

From testing it became clear that this is a little bit not what I would like:
    • slowly - 9 frames per second is absolutely not high! The cinema uses 25 frames.
    • slowly - USB, although 2.0, is still a brake!
    • slowly - The layout didn’t even go to 11, but to only 6 cameras, by analogy with one man , and still - the brakes! Moreover, he generally used FireWire ... But the same 9 frames per second and even cry!
    • Slowly - I thought about writing on a netbook. Big laptop STRONGLY raises weight!

I am silent about quality: in spite of all the assurances of the manufacturer, it does not drive full-fledged personnel, but JPG! With a creepy picture ...

    Option 2

This should have been a misunderstanding from Sony with a sly lens for shooting a circular picture on one camera.
    image
Having looked at IT, I chuckled and immediately decided to score: God forbid, the resolution is 1080 by 1080 (the horizon does not play a role here - the frame is almost square) and it is turned into a circle from the entire horizon ...
In height, it’s not even 540, but smaller!

As practice has shown, when these cameras did go on sale a year later: I was completely and completely right - not cool!

    Option 3

    Actually - current.
Take stupidly a few CHEAP recorders and write on them at the same time.

A year ago, a cheap option turned out to be a certain Chinese noun at 89 bucks with EBay ...
FullHD 720p, 30 frames per second and support for SDHC memory cards seemed like a decent option.

Three pieces were bought for inspection: more - I don’t fit in 10K for customs, less - delivery will get more expensive ...
The cameras were tested, several glitches were found, but in general they were found to be suitable.
Another 5 pieces were ordered in two batches - 3 and 2 (in the second there were also three, but she went to my work colleague, who also liked the device and wanted the same one).
Total - became the happy owner of as many as 8 pieces ...
It was supposed to shoot by analogy with that forehead for 6 cameras + 1 to the reserve and 1 - for himself (sometimes you need to remove a thread).
After a couple of experiments with cameras, I ordered 3 more: I decided to shoot Krugorama right away in “format” - 11 cameras rotated 90 degrees (not 3 by 4, but 6 by 4 screens at the domestic cinema, and 6 is vertical! Due to this we have a better overview than the western counterparts.)

Unfortunately, there were difficulties with the grandmothers after that and I could not order three more in reserve. After half a year - the cameras were discontinued and sold ...

At the moment, I keep in mind the replacement of the Kodak Zi6 - it is ideologically VERY close to mine.

    Option 3.1

Or “Mini-circle” - on keychains with a resolution of 720 by 480, at 30 frames per second.
Not 1280 by 720, like the “older” version, but 11 cameras with the size of a keychain have a VERY MUCH LOWER weight!

To complete happiness - the price of E-bay is one and a half dollars apiece - this can be done both in a helicopter and under water, and not really regret about her death! 11 bucks? Pfe! Compared to how people with a helicopter drowned a camera for 80 Tyr - such garbage!

    Option 3.2

“Next Generation” - using FullHD 1080p cameras. So far, in perspective, as there is no money for it.
One of the tricks is that the choice is now better than a year and a half ago, so that a camera with the ability to move the matrix with an “extension cord" will be taken, as a result of which it will be possible to place the cameras DENSE to each other, which will give better parallax.

The current version of the camera front and rear in the case and without: Here is such a "collapse" of cameras ... From the "late" - the camera module with a new cord and on the mounting plate:

    Memory cards

    Option 1

3 Transcend cards of 8 gig were bought. Bought, damn it, in M-Video, but only 1 was used in the end - the other 2 turned out to be buggy and the cameras fooled from them ...
Having estimated the price and "quality", I refused this option: 11 cameras with "busting" cards seemed an excess !

    Option 2 (current)

It was bought at a relatively low price, as many as 11 gigabyte cards.
    Why exactly these?
It's simple: the cameras have a very small glitch that after 20 minutes of continuous shooting they turn off and freeze, continuing to shoot, shoot, shoot ...
20 minutes is also a file size of about a gig and a session length in circular movie theaters.
So to shoot a few takes should be enough! Not for 20 minutes, the same take ?!

    Option 3 (near term)

    Eye-Fi Cards.
4 gigabytes per card + automatic folding after shooting to the archive via WiFi-n = happy Sior.
Otherwise, you need to hook the cameras via USB to the hubs, then to the laptop and transfer ...
About "Take out all 11 cards in turn and transfer them through the card reader" - I generally keep quiet, because the horror is uncomfortable!
Poor filmmakers - after shooting from 11 cameras they had to not only change the film in 11 cameras, but also TO MANIFEST IT !!!

Now 6 cards out of 11 have been ordered - it will be necessary to test with my “kitaya”, otherwise the manufacturer somehow categorically declared that they are not compatible with Kodak Zi6, although they worked for the people, sort of ...

    Video Finder

sadko recently wrote about a video finder for his stereo camera , but my task is somewhat more complicated: I have 11 cameras!

    Option 1: Pier Glass

Three "autumn is strong Chinese" mini LCD TV + 12-position switch.
11 positions - switch screens sequentially on three consecutive cameras for adjusting horizontally, etc.
The option is in the state “the switch is almost ready, and the TVs have not yet been purchased.”
As an alternative - a laptop with a video capture card can be connected to the switch.

    Option 2: Multiplex

2 color “quad” of video surveillance systems. On 4 and 8 channels.
The “folded” picture leaves two video capture cards in a laptop, which pulls it into pieces, rotates as it should and “glues” the panorama on the screen with the ability to scroll or view in video glasses with tracking.

When using WiFi, the operator doesn’t even need to sit under the camera while shooting (hiding behind the camera, as in a “normal” movie, is unrealistic here - “behind the camera” is absent as a class!).

Those same quadrants without lids. The devil is not so terrible as the dimensions of his body! The connectors will be soldered - connecting cameras in both versions is ONE cord.

    Nutrition

Battery powered is unpromising. 33 batteries that die pretty quickly - a little not what you need for happiness!

Fortunately, for a completely different project, a 12-volt UPS from MasterKit and a voltage stabilizer with adjustable voltage were once purchased.
An acc for 12 volts and 7.8 ampere-hours was purchased for it, which should last for a long time at local costs!

An acc of a larger capacity would be much heavier, so this one is the optimum!

An estimate of the size of the suitcase ...
No, the suitcase is clearly needed SMALLER!

    Conclusion

I look forward to criticism and advice (except “Yes,” “Nothing will come of it,” “It should be completely different”, and “It all happened already!”)
