SiteHelp - Online chat (online support) for your online store / project
SiteHelp - What is it?
- SiteHelp is an online chat system whose main purpose is to communicate with the operator / support / consultant / seller of the site where you are located as quickly as possible and without additional actions.
Why is this?
- As you know, very often an online store customer only needs to find out about the availability of a product ...
- Making a call is much more difficult and longer than making 1 click with the mouse.
- Many do not like to communicate with strangers.
How it works?
- The site owner places a special code on his site.
- After that, 1 (or more) “operator” is connected by any XMPP (Jabber) client to its account.
- After the “online” operator comes out, an image changes / appears on the site that reports that the “operator” is now online and is ready to answer your question.
- The client clicks on this image and receives a live chat with the operator.
- At the same time, the client can easily switch to other pages of the site, staying in touch with the operator, and the operator, in turn, sees that he is currently viewing the client, thus helping the client “make a decision”.

Technical details, nuances
I wrote this “thing” personally for myself (for my stores) and initially did not plan to make it available “publicly”.
But after some time, a friend asked for a “button” for himself on the site, and I decided to make it “public” by screwing the “control panel”.
The server part written in pearl from scratch (based on nothing) in 1 stream using the AnyEvent library. 100,000 connections are kept while "biting off" 150Mb of memory (on 64bit FreeBSD 8.0).
The jabber server is a stand-alone jabberD and it is tied to the system.
I am the only developer. So you can ask questions to me.
I don’t give links “where to watch live”, as they will consider it as advertising. On the site itself there is this same button in the "contacts" section.
By the way, the appearance of the button can be customized. (the plans also modify the design of the chat window for the "client")
Those who are interested - try it. I hope the server does not "lie down" ...
