Websphere: a new impetus for innovation
In early May, the annual IBM conference, IMPACT 2010, was held in Las Vegas. The conference was positioned as "The first conference for business and IT leaders." The new concept was predetermined by the new initiative of IBM Technical and Industry Advocates, which is designed for new ways to use innovation and reduce the time of implementation of projects.
IBM Technical and Industry Advocates
The goal of the initiative is to help partners create, develop and strengthen long-term relationships with IBM executives, industry experts, senior technical experts, researchers, developers, and other IBM IT professionals. Thanks to this relationship, partners will be able to take advantage of qualified assistance in building an IT architecture, increasing productivity, updating software solutions, migrating and configuring software to meet specific industry requirements.
As an illustration of the benefits of this initiative, the experience of PayPal, which, together with the cloud technology center IBM Cloud Labs, worked on expanding its global open electronic payment platform PayPal X into the cloud, was described. Thanks to working directly with IBM, PayPal now provides its developer ecosystem with the ability to streamline workflows and innovate in the IBM cloud environment. Thousands of developers have already begun to create innovative applications using PayPal X. By extending the ecosystem of PayPal application developers to IBM's cloud computing environment, PayPal provides PayPal X with more developers and makes the cloud environment a new e-wallet habitat.
As part of the IBM Technical and Industry Advocates initiative, industry-specific social networking groups are organized for partners at PartnerWorld Communities . Launched in June 2009, the project is a unique social networking community created by IBM in order to facilitate real-time communication and business collaboration with its partners. The community extends beyond PartnerWorld and has 10,000 partners visiting 250 LinkedIn social networks, 400 Facebook social networking groups, and over 500 thematic blogs discussing a wide range of specific application issues in a particular industry - from implementing SOA architectures and environmentally friendly IT to virtualization and cloud computing.
PartnerWorld Community users can also take advantage of the new Virtual Summit feature, with which partners can plan and conduct online seminars to strengthen and develop relationships and interactions with their customers.
At the conference, special attention was focused on the tasks of specialized industry solutions. IBM talked about how the accumulated experience working with customers from various industries is used by the company's partners. And as a result, partners can use IBM industry-specific infrastructure solutions to develop projects for their customers. It is guaranteed that their solutions will work reliably and without problems with IBM technologies.
Today, this initiative is being improved, expanded and extended to the recently announced IBM Banking Industry Framework . This interoperability testing program provides objective criteria for testing business partner solutions. Customers from the banking industry will be able to make sure that the solutions deployed by independent software vendors are pre-integrated and tested for compatibility with IBM infrastructure solutions for the banking industry.
For partners working with customers from the public sector, IBM introduced the Value Advantage Plus for Government Sales program. This program helps authorized resellers learn the knowledge and experience of experts and use useful resources to organize sales to customers from the public sector.
There were also cloud computing at the conference. At the IMPACT Business Partner Summit 2010 Business Partner Summit, over 100 partners participated in a series of training seminars on cloud computing technologies. Among the main issues raised at the seminars, it was considered in which areas the advantages of cloud environments are manifested and what partners can do to develop services and solutions that implement new business opportunities. Similar cloud technology education workshops will continue to be organized at all IBM software related events and partner events, as well as at all 40 IBM Innovation Centers.
In addition to new initiatives, new products were announced to optimize and manage processes and the IT environment. New IBM WebSphere Appliances solutions are easy-to-install network devices designed to accelerate the deployment of XML and web services.
The IBM WebSphere DataPower Integration Blade XI50B network devices , now available on IBM BladeCenter systems, are designed to solve the problem of costly point-to-point integration. The new IBM WebSphere DataPower XC10 solution improves application performance with drop-in cache mode. An updated version of the IBM WebSphere Cloudburst ApplianceNow it supports the environments necessary for automating business processes and services related to planning, coordination and management.
In addition, a new Akamai Ready initiative was announced that aims to provide integration between IBM WebSphere products and Akamai services to accelerate web applications. Another important announcement is the new SOA Repository Artifact Model & Protocol or S-RAMP standard, which will help customers simplify IT environments by improving the interoperability of their components.
In addition, IBM Global Technology Services also introduced the Rapid Deployment Services (RDS) for Middleware suite of services for rapid deployment of middleware. These automated deployment services for integrated multi-product middleware solutions accelerate application installation by up to 80% compared to a manual deployment process.
