Outstripped Apple in the fight for the US market

According to research firm NPD Group in the first quarter of 2010, Android OS outperformed the iPhone OS in popularity in the United States market. According to NPD, today Google has 28% of the market, which puts them in second place after Research in Motion (36%), while Apple flaunts in third place with 21%

According to the same agency, Android owes such success primarily to close cooperation with mobile operators. For example, Verizon offers phones based on Android, as well as Blackberry, according to the profitable program “buy one - get another one for free”. However, in any case, the only operator offering Apple phones - AT&T, is still the leader in the market of US opsos, owning 32% of the market. Next comes Verizon, which is actively gaining momentum and managing 30% of the market. End the list of T-Mobile and Sprint, each of which is content with 15% shares.

It is possible that Apple will regain its position after the release of the next-generation iPhone, which is expected this summer. However, do not forget about the fundamental difference between Android and iPhone OS - the latter does not license the mobile axis for the needs of third companies, releasing devices and collecting cream from sales alone. In contrast, Google is on a completely different road, giving its OS for use by almost anyone, of whom there are currently quite a few. In addition, the exclusive contract between Apple and AT&T was signed for 5 years, which means that during all this time Google will reap the benefits not only of several manufacturers of the devices themselves, but also of the active PR companies of mobile operators.

The other side of the coin is that Apple never wanted to be the first (this thought only affects phones, with an iPod a completely different situation). Google is a developer of software and services, while Apple is a company with a high ratio of profits, its own niche created exclusively for itself, and Steve Jobs is unlikely to sleep because his company is somewhere third.
