Earlier this week, Facebook announced the launch of community pages, pages based on topics of interest to the community that are not supported by a single author. Pages with a single author include the pages of a group or company that intends to promote the group or company. Instead, community pages are based on the concept of “collective knowledge” that underpins Wikipedia. Community pages include Wikipedia content, which is licensed under a Creative Commons license .

For example, look at the Culinary community page . The page contains directly imported CC BY-SA licensed content from the article " Cooking ""from Wikipedia. All links to Wikipedia are saved, including direct links for editing information. The bottom of the page clearly indicates the source of content with links to the CC BY-SA license and the history of this article:image

Wikipedia articles on Facebook will further expand the reach of free knowledge on the Internet. Facebook has hundreds of millions of users and currently more than 70% of their traffic comes from outside the United States. We hope that many Facebook users (if they have not already done so) will also be inclined to join the huge Wikipedia community. Facebook will follow free licenses (CC-BY-SA) and help us find new ways that people can share knowledge. In addition, we will look for other ways in which both sides will be able to cooperate in the future.
