New premium features: version history and 50 megabytes per note

Starting today, in addition to existing features , the Evernote premium account has two new features: note history and an increased maximum note size.

New feature: note history (aka version control)

Now Evernote makes copies of your notes and their contents. Several times a day, Evernote checks to see if any of them have been changed. If modified notes are detected, Evernote makes a new copy of these notes and adds them to the history stored on our servers. Thus, the premium account now keeps a history for each of your notes. There are no restrictions on the number of copies, and old versions do not affect your monthly quota for new notes.

    Access note history

To access the note history, log in to the Evernote web interface, click on the note, open the "Note Attributes" section, and there you will see the link "View Note History". Please note that although browsing is currently being done over the web, history is tracked for notes created in all versions of Evernote. In the near future, we will implement the appropriate functionality in our versions for desktops and mobile devices.

What you can do with your note history
There are two options. First, you can view earlier versions of your note by clicking on them in the history list. Sometimes just looking at the old version (and copy / paste) is enough. You can also export the note in Evernote format, and then import it into the Evernote application for Windows or Mac from the main menu File -> Import.

    Great for collaboration
In the Evernote web interface, you can create collaborative notebooks. And premium users can also open to others the rights to read and edit their notebooks. Now, as the owner of a joint notebook, you have access to old versions of open notes, which gives a better understanding of how the text was changed and supplemented.

    Couple of comments
    • The history of the note does not record every change made to the note; versions are saved periodically according to the schedule.
    • To improve the efficiency and stability of work, the history of notes is kept on our servers, and not on local clients. This means that you do not have to worry that the local database is constantly growing from note versions, but Internet access is required to restore it.
    • If you delete a note and then empty the trash, then the history of the note is permanently deleted. Remember that emptying the basket does not affect the size of the monthly quota in any way; this operation is only necessary to permanently delete the note and its history.
    • Remember that all notes that were created in local, non-syncable notebooks in versions for Windows or Mac do not leave your computer, and we cannot save their previous versions. Also, if you move a note from synchronized to a local notebook, then we will delete the note from our servers, including its history.

New premium feature: maximum 50 megabytes.
Premium users can now add more content to their notes. The maximum size of one note increased from 25 to 50 megabytes, which is very useful for storing PowerPoint presentations, Photoshop files and much more. And anticipating your questions, we’ll immediately say that we are working on the possibility of expanding the monthly limit over the current 500 megabytes. Follow the news.

We are pleased to have been able to implement these frequently requested premium features. Others are under development. We try to make Evernote a great solution for everyone. If these features push you to become a premium user - that's great (and thank you). If you prefer to leave a free account and use all its features, do not worry, we still love you very much.
