Open source application build platform and package manager for Windows

Gaerett Serack, a Microsoft employee, published a note on his blog that he will be working on a new project, coapp.org (The Common Opensource Application Publishing Platform), which will combine:

• infrastructure to facilitate the development and assembly of Open Source applications for Windows
• package manager, for Windows

CoApp will not be a port of some existing unix infrastructure, but will fully use Windows technologies - WinSxS, MSI, Windows Error Reporting.

The message on slashdot also says that he will devote all his working time to it, but I did not read the confirmation to this on his blog, although he is present there in the comments and does not protest.

It is interesting that this will come out of everything - while the project is at an early stage.
