Gamlist - your list of games
Hello, Habr. On this pleasant spring day, I decided to talk about my project. I think many gamers dreamed of some kind of Last.fm game - a service where you can keep track of past games, mark the best of them, and also watch what your friends or neighbors are playing. Of course, writing some semblance of AudioScrobbler for games seems unlikely: a lot of your favorite old games have already been completed and put off the shelf three times, and humanity has not yet come up with any reasonable system for recording games.
Gamlistallows you to make a list of your favorite / not favorite passed / yet-not-passed games. Using the search you can find the game in the database and add it to your list. Everything works quite simply, but it takes a little time to remember all the previous military achievements. Filling the list and saving the page, you can get a short address for it like gamlist.org/agressor (instead of the aggressor - your nickname), as well as customize its appearance. Based on the list, you can generate userbars that will be automatically updated.
The main feature of the service is its simplicity. Filling begins immediately upon entering the site in the test account. Registration occurs only when the user wants to save his profile. For the sake of interest, I haven’t even included a captcha so far, let's see what happens.
Of course, while the usefulness of the service will seem to many doubtful, but with a sufficient user base, you can make interesting ratings: who plays what, which games are the most anticipated, and also, for example, build graphs of game popularity.
But this is still in the distant plans. In the near future - add social functions: the ability to follow updates from another user, add games from Twitter, find neighbors and others.
I would be very happy if you find the Gamlist useful.
PS: A huge number of computer and video games are presented in the gamlist base, starting from the beginning of the 90s. But for sure there will be inconsistencies, gaps and other clumsiness. With more than 15,000 games in the database, this is normal, we will fix everything if possible.
PS / 2: Who cares: the project is made on Symfony 1.4 + Propel 1.4 + Prototype JS. Search performed by the Sphinx.
