A printer that prints buildings

not so long ago on Habrahabr there was an article about Application of 3D printing in medicine .
The technology is widely used in many fields, including design, architecture and even Construction!

The Italian engineer, designer and architect Enrico Dini, who used to design robots, came up with the revolutionary idea of a machine that prints ... Buildings.

His invention is a 3D printer "prototype for automatic production", and combines the functionality of computer architecture programs with the simplicity and speed of printer printing.

The device is called D – Shape .
The design is based on a frame, which is supported by four independent supports. At the bottom of the frame are nozzles - they spray sand and a binder solution. In one cycle, the "print head" passes over the surface 4 times. Then a stop is made, and the resulting layer with a thickness of about 10 mm dries.

According to the architect, “the process is 4 times faster than conventional monolithic construction, and costs are reduced from a third to half compared with the use of Portland cement. During the construction process, less waste remains and it is less harmful to the environment. ”
One of the main advantages of the invention is the simple and quick recreation of complex architectural forms of the bionic structure created in 3D CAD applications.

Despite the fact that at the moment the prototype can only produce relatively small objects, it is mainly used to create small architectural forms, Dini wants to seriously develop the project: “What I really want to do is use the machine to complete the Sagrada Familia, ” said Dini.

The construction of this magnificent building, designed by the famous Antonio Gaudi, began in 1882 and it continues to this day.
