Buyers of new Google phones complain about hardware problems

Google has recently released its flagship phone, the new Google Pixel model (even two phones at once, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL). When numerous media outlets wrote about the phone, the gadget, in general, received positive feedback. Some authors even claimed that this is the best Android smartphone that can be purchased today.
In general, the positive “review trend” continued immediately after the release of the phone. But a week later there were negative reviews. Mostly, users complained about the device screen. The main reason for complaints is display burnout (for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, this is P-OLED).
In general, screens of this type can really burn out. This happens when a static picture is displayed on a long-on screen. Samsung, which uses such displays in its phones, solves the problem by adding dynamic objects — for example, a moving button on the Galaxy S8. But something went wrong with Google.
The screens lose their color brightness or completely burn out within a few days after the phone was turned on for the first time. It is clear that Google cannot simply ignore user complaints. Experts have begun an investigation and are now conducting an "extensive" test of their smartphones. “We carefully consider all comments, and our engineers react to all this. We plan to release updates as soon as the results of the test are known, ”said Google Vice President Mario Queroz.
The difficulty is that now it is not known exactly what kind of problem caused this screen behavior. It may well be that the observed "burnout" is the multiple preservation of residual images. In this case, everything is solved simply, and not by hardware, but by software methods. By the way, the manufacturer of displays for phones Pixel 2 XL is LG. The LG V30’s own smartphone also has such a display, and it’s also a problem. Pixel 1, Pixel 1 XL, and Pixel 2 use screens made by Samsung. These models have fewer problems than Pixel 2 XL.
True, burnout is not everything. Some users also report a black spot problem. It appears after a dark-colored object quickly moves across the display. As a result, a temporary trail is pulled behind the object. Actually, this does not affect the display, but Pixel buyers, of course, are not too happy. In addition, on Pixel XL 2, some icons (for example, the download icon) may simply disappear. All this is not for long and certain conditions are needed to reproduce the effect, but nothing happens with other phones.
But that's not all. Now, some users have begun to complain that Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones emit third-party noise, which is in no way connected with sound reproduction on the phone itself. In most cases, it is a question of a click sound and a high-frequency squeak, which is emitted by the upper and lower speakers of the phones.
Sometimes noises are heard not only during the "rest" of the phone, but also during a telephone conversation. One user recorded the sound his smartphone makes . This noise, as experienced by some users have found out, can be made quieter by turning off NFC. According to representatives of Google, this problem can be eliminated by updating the firmware - now the company's engineers are already working on patches.
Hardware problems are observed not only on Google’s smartphones, there are various glitches and other devices recently released by the corporation. For example, the Google Home Mini touchscreen surface was so problematic that Google developers chose to simply turn it off.
Buyers of all these devices are asking quite a logical question - who and how checks the quality of a corporation's products and why hundreds of dollars have to be paid for problematic devices. Of course, the hardware characteristics of the gadget at the height, nothing can be said against it. But it seems that someone on Google didn’t do a good test of the samples.
