Notebook AST PenExec 3/25 SL

Outside, Friday night, which means it's time to write a post on Habr.
Now I’ll tell you about a wonderful “machine” that served me faithfully at the very beginning of my path as a programmer.
Meet the AST PenExec 3/25 SL Notebook!
Its excellent characteristics at that time:
- Processor - 80386
- Memory - basic 640Kb + “advanced” 3264Kb, total 3904Kb
- Hard disk - 40 MB (just like in the “that” song)
- Operating System - DOS + on top of “Microsoft Windows for Pen Computing 1.0”
- In addition - a stylus on batteries (unfortunately need to be repaired) and an external drive for 3 inch floppy disks
- Year of release - presumably 1993
Well, is it interesting to look at the pictures of this device?
All pictures are clickable!
So, the appearance in the folded state ...

... and in the open Marking on the back cover - "Made in USA"! Just a couple of photos of the look and move on to the software ;-) Keyboard - allows you to turn on / off the screen, hard drive, output to an external monitor, sound (speaker) ... It was also convenient to print: Ports on the back are VGA (?) And COM, and also power: And now it's time to press the "power" button! The first thing you can see: And then after 3-4 seconds, the familiar "Windows", the version of "for Pen": Let's see the screenshots of available interesting applications! The screen immediately after loading: Run the file manager:

Interestingly, the Microsoft Office suite seems pirated ^ _ ^.
Excel loads (10 seconds): And its interface: The basic functionality worked without problems even then, although I did not check it thoroughly (and the level of use is different for everyone). I looked at the system information (or rather found) in ... one of the Word's menus, I could no longer find an adequate way. = ( The same printer from my previous post But it’s quite Windows, we’ll leave for a quick convenient DOS = D. More precisely, we’ll exit and go straight into Norton Commander: We’ll work in Turbo Pascal 7.0 (one of the first programs, you don’t need to kick the code ^ _ ^, Yes, and the post is not about that) Well, the matter is time - a fun hour! Let's play Supaplex!

And this completes the inspection. =) By clicking on the pictures, you can go to the Picasa album, there are just a few more pictures for anyone interested.
I’ll add on my own - I used the laptop to study Pascal at school in grades 6 and 7, as well as to study assembler in class 8 (by Kalashnikov mailing list). It was a good time, a great car, the first programs and surprises.
I still remember the program for studying the “case” operator, where by the number from 1 to 7 it was necessary to display the day of the week. So, I thought that the system checks the spelling and was very surprised when he calmly displayed “Ponedel'nik”. = D And assembler is generally a different story, having studied it, much becomes clear, and the subject of computer organization at the university is studied easily and pleasantly! =)
"But this time has passed, it was a long time ago ...". Today we need to move on, but do not forget our roots.
Peace!
