The new ion Wexler. Overview
One more device on the basis of nVidia ION got to my tenacious paws, I already published the press release on Habré. First of all, I like the Avirsa Electronics company because it allows opening devices and inspecting the insides.

It is also nice that many of the shortcomings of the first version of VisION have been fixed. In this model, Wi-Fi finally appeared, different color options and two digital outputs for the monitor \ TV. Well and the rest on trifles ...
In the review I decided not to focus on benchmarks, because the average capabilities of the platform are already known, and from time to time they change insignificantly.

The set is quite impressive, but on the device itself there is still some pre-installed software that uses the capabilities of the graphics core. The dimensions of the device are 190x135x25 mm.

On the box, the device configuration is described in detail, from which the characteristics of the sample that came to me are visible. Judging by the serial number, I got the third nettop from the first batch that hit retail. According to representatives of the manufacturer, only last week nettops received colorful boxes and started to go shopping. The manufacturer of the platform is Foxconn, a well-known company, which positively affected the build quality when compared with the first version of the device.

The front and rear panels are packed with connectors and buttons. On the front panel even appeared non-standard sleep-button, which I have not seen on similar devices. It is worth noting immediately that the buttons do not have the unpleasant backlash that occurs on the Acer Revo and Wexler VisION-1. Pictures are clickable.

A set of four magnets on which to mount the optional optical drive. Alas, the drive itself did not go to me. By the way, it is still not visible at retail, it may appear in the near future. I wonder how the drive will be connected to the nettop ... let's hope that a flexible usb-cord.

This is how magnets look when installed. The nettop stand has two perpendicular connectors for installation, one just under the nettop, and the second under the nettop with the drive. A completely ergonomic and effective solution. VESA-mount does not interfere with attaching the optical drive, but does not hold it in any way, the drive will be mounted exclusively on magnets. The mount complies with VESA 100x100 and 75x75 standards.

In such an intricate way, I managed to connect both digital outputs to my working monitors. Mounting the adapter in the HDMI port was rather flimsy, since the DVI connector interfered with it, however, a small backlash did not prevent the monitors from correctly determining on the nettop.

You can visually compare how the dimensions of the VisION-2 compare with the standard 5.25 "optical drive.

A proud logo wrapper appeared on both monitors immediately after the initial setup was completed. The most fastidious can comment on the clutter of our office. =)

Built-in performance testing gives 3.3 points, but it’s not very clear where the low points for performance in games and the Aero interface come from, when the younger brother has better ones with this. The memory subsystem and the central processor (in place of an atom, I would be proud of such a title) work faster. Maybe the lack of an Aero interface in the Home Basic delivery also affects the test results ...
Included is a Badaboom utility that can convert video for iphone using the capabilities of the integrated video card. Left 4 Dead 2 also works quite well, albeit not as fast as on a full-fledged desktop. This is mainly due to the fact that the graphic component has not changed much relative to the first part, and also works on the Source engine five years ago.
Pros :
Cons :
As I wrote at the beginning of the review, most of the shortcomings of the first VisION model were corrected, however, “childhood diseases” remained. I don’t understand why not put a short monitor cord and a cable organizer loop in the kit. The impossibility of upgrading nettops is time to take for granted, but nothing prevents the organization of a compartment for replacing a hard drive or RAM, by analogy with many laptops.
Personally, I liked the nettop much more than all the others that passed through me devices, both by touch and by hardware. Yes, and dark blue textolite has it ... but more on that later. =)
Find in stores Wexler VisION-2, similar to the hero of the review - can be estimated for 16000r . All the same, but with Windows 7 Starter - for13000r . A great option for a New Year's gift.
See you ... an autopsy will follow ...
upd!
It just turned out that after opening the nettop is not withdrawn from the guarantee. The warranty is only valid for components that are part of the product. Those. Using third-party components does not affect the motherboard warranty.
