Now you can seal)
Most recently, I did a small theoretical article about printers, or rather, about the CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System).

The need to print a bunch of photos at that time has not gone away and today I want to share the results of the work.
Having pecked a walnut after the last article (thanks to everyone who accepted the discussion in it!), I finally realized that CISSs are still a profitable acquisition for the home. True, only in the only case - if there is a need to at least print something. If it is lazy to print one photo a month, then not only the CISS, but the printer itself is not needed.
The course of my further thoughts was approximately as follows: “So, well ... the issue with the camera has been resolved - for now let the wife master, and dig deeper in my spare time. We’ll take a picture of at least a child - it grows by leaps and bounds, memories for life, all things ... well, all sorts of holidays, parties, meetings. It’s not a matter of storing photos only on a computer, I agree - good frames are not a shame for you to print. People said that in the case of some ink during CISS, photos can fade in a couple of years - well, there is a place on the hard drives for digital originals, if nothing changes, it can be reprinted. Yes, and the pictures will most likely be stored in albums - why should they fade) So ... well, what are the photo labs or your printer with a ciss? So, how much are the pictures there ... so, delivery is only in the aisles of the Moscow Ring Road ... damn it here is expensive, here the office is somehow muddy ... pp, I don’t want something to go around these photo-labs - I’ll buy a printer. I’ll go broke once, but I’ll imprint myself until I turn blue)". In a similar way, I was begging myself for a photo printer)

Maybe I would not have found a compromise with myself then) If not for another provocation.
In the first article about CISS, I used InkSystem videos , a person from whom later turned to me in ICQ. “ Thank you, they wrote interestingly, we cannot join the discussion, because we can’t register, but if you have questions - ask, we will answer". After a short conversation, I asked them to help with choosing a really good printer "for home and for myself", which could be bought and then not bite my elbows. I was invited to visit at any time - after having studied a couple of models with CISS from their assortment, which I personally liked (in particular, according to reviews on forums and Yandex.market), I went.

Actually, they immediately said that for good photo printing you need a good printer, i.e. for a couple of rubles to look for a solution to the issue is not worth it. But to be honest, I didn’t want to overpay) Like me, there are mainly seriously considering only two companies - Canon and Epson (well, a bit of HP), which didn’t surprise me much. After 10 minutes of educational program, I was offered “this new Epson,” which I considered at home as a possible option. "This" -Espon Stylus Photo T50 , a model released this summer. The technical parameters of this printer are almost the same as those of the Epson Stylus Photo R295 (it seems that the company simply ran out of numbers in the R *** series), which was praised literally everywhere - in comments for the article, on forums, etc.
It was also not possible to find differences (neither on Yandex.market , nor on the official website ) and from the Epson Stylus Photo T59 model . Apparently, it differs only in the color of the case (darker than the T50) and the presence of a tiny (10 sheets) pack of 10x15 paper, which turned out to be a very dubious bonus of the "premium" version with an overpayment of $ 15.
Since the unpacked T50 with the original cartridge (I just wanted to take it with a ciss) in the office was on one of the shelves, I hinted that it would be nice to compare print quality (because there were still doubts about the results of the CISS, but somewhere I couldn’t compare something like that). Putting two printers side by side as in a video , they printed a photo from my flash drive - of course there are differences, but really minimal. More precisely, to say this - when you see only one of the images, you simply will not suspect anything) and given the difference in the cost of printing ... As a result, I agreed to this model.

I was surprised by the fact that many wrote in the comments, they say, you need to spend almost half a day installing the CISS - with me the system was installed in literally 3 minutes. Again, it can be considered advertising), but the company, apparently for educational purposes, is recording visual videos on installing CISS on almost every printer model .

Regarding my model - I didn’t have to cut anything with a file - a couple of movements and you're done. And, importantly, without depriving the manufacturer of a guarantee!

Actually, the video itself:
In a fairly large box (which will be easy to drag, but it will be much easier to transport, and in the case of an installed ciss, it’s even more correct) there were:
- An Epson Stylus Photo T50 printer with a continuous ink supply system installed;
- Ink 6 colors of 130 ml. each color;
- 6 “demo” sets of photo paper;
- A die for printing on disks;
- CD with drivers;
- Network wire;
- USB cable;
- Papers.
It is logical that to reduce the cost, the original cartridge is excluded from the kit.
Papers - a booklet with a list of original consumables, two warranty cards (from the manufacturer of the CISS and from Epson) + Quick Start Guide; there are no paper instructions as such, which in my opinion is very bad. But it is on the disk - made in the form of a detailed color html-reference.

As for photo paper, I got confused. I don’t know what should be in the kit, but something should definitely be. Judging by another review on the Internet, there should be 4 demo packs of paper from Epson - Glossy, Premium Glossy, Ultra Glossy and Premium Semigloss. I had 6 packs - five packs of 10 sheets 13x18 each (Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper, 255g / m) and one 10x15 InkSystem Premium Glossy 10x15 (22 sheets). In short, a total of 72 sheets of glossy paper came out and I'm glad about that)
Sellers also said that ALL Epson printers do not have a USB cord - is it a crisis?
The black-and-gray printer case cannot be called compact - it unwittingly occupied approximately 1/6 of the desktop surface.

Nevertheless, the manufacturer tried to somehow optimize its size (at least in the idle state) - it folds up the paper tray and presses the stand on which the printed paper is.

It can be lengthened due to three retractable sections - it is better not to lean on the resulting design)

It is very pleasant that there is practically no gloss on the case - only in a couple of places where the print activity will be minimal. But everything else is either matte or black plastic with a pleasant rough texture.

On the front panel on the left there are three plastic buttons, under which there are dim LEDs.

The next thing I liked is that it does not have an external power adapter. Agree, when there are about five black “cubes” under the table that periodically outweigh the surge protector ... it’s not pleasant enough. Everything is simpler here - one end of the wire is inserted into the outlet, the other immediately into the printer. For the final connection to the computer you need to connect the USB-cord. In the instructions for quick installation, everything is written in detail how and where. But due to the fact that the printer was tested in the store, I had no choice but to turn it on.
There were no problems with installing drivers (WinXP) - after five minutes of the installer, 3 shortcuts appear on the desktop. Epson Easy Photo Print, Print CD And Epson Stylus Photo T50 Guide.
The manual deserves special praise - although it is made up of porridge from files on the disk, there are probably answers to all questions - everything is detailed, with color pictures and blackjack), as well as with full localization.

To start printing, you need to run one of the programs (well, or print from the program menu, but then many details are not recognized).

I haven’t tested printers until now (although I had a ridiculous old Lexmark Z11 inkjet and now laser Samsung ML-1630 ), so I don’t plan any tactics) Nevertheless, I printed about what the printer will print in the future and share what is.
The first thing to note is to call the printer quiet, the language does not turn) more precisely, it prints quietly, but here some preparatory processes before printing inside are soooo noisy (the sound resembles old dot-matrix printers - put it in the room where the little child is sleeping, I did not dare to. the same ML1630 prints at times quieter, but even its sound in a silence of the night much palpable.
Printing documents
Since this is primarily a color printer, I decided to print in it a plain text document containing black text and some colored elements.
The first A4 sheet appeared somewhere after 15 seconds, the second - after about 5.
The quality of the printed - at a high level. When considering the fine details of the text, fonts do not have any irregularities. Until now, the feeling that the cartridge is not official does not leave)
Printing images of
Interest for the sake of printing a color picture in the same way on ordinary office paper (Komus document, A4, white, 80g / m).
The result is decent. A fully-filled A4 appeared after about 15 seconds.

Printing on photo paper
Since the printer was awarded the possibility of photo printing (which is why, in fact, it was bought), it is a sin not to print a couple of pictures. I can’t even put up with the idea that you can now print as much as you like) I
printed two images - color and black and white. After reading on the Internet, it turned out that printing black and white photos for many printers is a weak point - instead of shades of gray, they often give blue. The result was quite black and white) I printed a

color image ( original ) for comparison with the original on the screen and with the print received in the store. Immediately I will make a reservation that the comparison was very incorrect - from the store there was a matte 10x15, and I printed glossy 13x18.

Toli Tolstoy workshop worthless, Toli Toli printer is really good) But I liked the glossy print much more. I don’t know how this will be conveyed in the photographs in the article, but live differences are obvious. The printer produced more pink “human” skin colors, while the clarity was at a high level. Comparing two pictures, you understand that the money for the first was paid in vain, but what can you do) On the other hand, I repeat, having only one of the pictures in your hands, you will not notice anything terrible. By the way, 13x18 photo was printed exactly 15 seconds.

There is a rumor on the Internet that this printer does not print without borders - it even prints. The main thing is to expose any type of paper, except for plain paper. By the way, the printer software allows you to choose a lot of different paper profiles - I chose the one that matches the inscription on the bundle of photo paper)
Printing on disks A
nice feature, but not one of those that are necessary) In the subway, I bought a couple of noname disks that cost 10 rubles each a piece. Everything was printed, however, the result was not impressive (it took about 20 seconds to print) - the colors definitely lack brightness and saturation, although everything is super clear with clarity.

I tried to play around with the settings - the result was not much better. A search of the forums suggested that there was nothing surprising - all noname disks behaved in a similar way. They advised Verbatim - I bought a couple of pieces and here is the result. In my opinion, this is five, litter for my next face)

This, of course, does not mean at all that I will now constantly print something on disks ... nevertheless, the very possibility will not be superfluous. You can find application options - print rugs on disks into a car, some key pictures (or galleries of thumbnails from picas) on a photo disc ... or a list of software in small print, backup dates and notes - whatever. The main thing is not to lose the “stand for disks”) If I use hard drives for backup, then I see the benefit for myself - “decorate” disks in a car + occasionally make all kinds of souvenirs.

As for software - for printing on disks it is a separate proprietary program. There are few ready-made templates; you can create covers for disc boxes; work with 8 and 12cm discs is supported, and the outer and inner diameters for printing can be manually set.

With ease of use, there is not as good as we would like (for example, specifying the background of the picture, you will move its figs - only through the dialog boxes). All the standard tools (text, shapes, pictures, etc.) are there, but to make them really beautiful ... well, maybe it can) When it comes to my heart to make it really beautiful, I will make the picture itself in Photoshop, and export it to the program only for printing.
Pros :
- Non-marking surface, folding trays;
- Functional software and visual informative help;
- Superior print quality;
- Ability to print on disks;
- Easy to install CISS.
Cons :
- Huge sizes;
- Lack of a USB cable in the kit and paperwork;
- For this price, I would like the possibility of offline printing (without the participation of a PC);
- Dear original cartridges ( 3000r for 6 pieces ?!)
- Noisy in preparation for printing;
- High price.
"Naked" Epson Stylus Photo T50 with original ink on Yandex costs from 4400 to 6500 rubles.

At InkSystem, it cost 4,600 rubles, but since I took it right away with the CISS (it costs 1799 rubles separately) and a liter of ink, the total cost was 7500 rubles. As it turned out, there are no problems with installing the system (although there are nuances), we installed everything for free. Logically, the original ink is no longer included in the box, but the bonus is a couple of packs of original paper from Epson, the print quality on which I was really pleasantly surprised.
The ink supply, according to sellers, is enough for 2000-2500 images of size 10x15, which, according to my estimates, could have lasted a couple of years (in the original cartridge, the ink volume is 11 ml and allows you to print 150-200 photos).
According to my estimates, the approximate cost of a print is about 0.2 rubles per ink, with a print format of 10x15 cm. A sheet of photo paper costs from 1 ruble (noname) to 5 (original Epson). Accordingly, if we take paper of average “power”, the price of the photo will be approximately equal (or even slightly less) than in the photo workshop. But you don’t have to run anywhere and wait for anything - if you didn’t like it, you can immediately reprint it, correct it, and so on. If we consider the large format (15x20 or even A4), then the savings increase significantly.
Also for this printer there are refillable cartridges (PZK), but CISS seemed to me more promising and durable.
Firstly, when I arrived home, my wife took out a huge pack of photos and said, “ Do you want to see? I finally took the pictures from print ”) Just the ones that I planned to print relatives. 170 matte 10x15 pictures she poured into 700 rubles.

Secondly, I’m not angry with her for this) since there was still not so much photo paper. But the most unpleasant thing - I forgot at the company a set of air filters for containers and instructions. Figs with her, with a piece of paper (found on the internet), but without filters, as it turned out, you can’t print, so I stopped the experiments until I took these figs. Now the containers are closed with shipping plugs, which facilitate transportation. I hope that next time you need to print a stack of pictures, this will be done at home)

Actually, the question remained photo paper - what to print after the demos run out? Advise please. Since you don’t feel like running after it all the time, it’s interesting to buy a large pack that would be stored in a closet and spent as needed.
And also, what should I do if I need to print something on a disk, but so that around the printed page there is a normal surface of the disc, can I somehow do this?
Here, by the way, where part of the photo went:

I think that I was very successfully helped with choosing a printer, rather than being paid for money) I’m really happy with a piece of iron, although all these jars and cables are of course killing with their appearance) The
printer takes up a lot of space, but the ability to fold all the folding trays turned out to be very useful , like the lack of an external adapter.
As for the print quality, I don’t know how on the original cartridges (nevertheless, one print for comparison is not an indicator), but I am very pleased with the quality of the CISS picture, although in the end it plays a minor role. I mean, it’s much easier to “spoil” a photo with an unfortunate angle, cropping, or primitive processing, rather than a color difference that you simply don’t know about without comparison.
Perhaps you can advise this printer - it seems that he really knows his job. A little expensive, but if there is interest in the camera, it will pay off pretty quickly. And professional photographers already know everything;)
