TrackID

TrackID is a service created in early 2006 by the Californian company Gracenote for Walkman phones and SonyEricsson, which allows you to recognize the artist and the name of a piece of music from a short passage recorded on the phone’s microphone.

    Principle of operation

To work with the service in the SonyEricsson phone that supports the function, the TrackID application is available from the menu. To recognize a piece of music, the user launches the program - it records an excerpt (10-12 seconds) of the piece of music using the phone’s built-in microphone in the AMR format and sends it to the SonyEricsson Web service, where it is compared with samples existing in the database and after a few seconds , if successful, the song information is displayed on the screen.

Most likely, the service is based on the technology of audio fingerprints and a large database of audio data. As a result, when compared with other files, candidates are detected with one or another probability.
