September 30, 2009 - Oslo, Norway - Starting September 1, 2009, Nintendo’s European subsidiary launches the free distribution of Opera-based Internet Channel browser for Wii. Previously, users had to pay 500 Wii points through the Wii Shop Channel service to access the Internet Channel. For Wii owners who have gained access to the Internet Channel before September 1, Nintendo in October will offer to choose an NES game from the list of Virtual Console projects for purchase for saved Wii points.

Opera for Wii is a unique family-oriented browser. By controlling the Opera browser using the Wii Remote controller, users can access e-mail, photos, flash videos, and other web resources. Opera for Wii provides convenient work with web pages on TV screens. For the first time, the Opera browser for Wii with unique scaling technology was introduced during the announcement of the Internet Channel service.

“We are honored to be part of the success of the revolutionary Nintendo console. Access to the Internet from any device and anywhere is our long-term strategic goal, and partnership with Nintendo allows us to get closer to it, ”said Jon von Techner, chief executive officer of Opera Software. “The last barrier to using the Internet Channel service has been overcome, and now full Internet access is available for a much larger number of Wii console owners.”

In order to download the Internet Channel, just go to the Wii Shop Channel web portal, and the Wii game console must be connected to the Internet. You can learn about getting NES games for free using the Wii Message Board, on the Nintendo website, or by contacting Nintendo Support.
