AOL experimenting again with ICQ protocol
Problem: Miranda again refuses to connect
A couple of days ago, Miranda unexpectedly stopped connecting to the server via ICQ protocol, giving the following message:
Quickly ran through the search on the Internet, I did not find any specific mention of the problem, except for two interesting messages from the user R (i) SK from the Miranda forum:
forums.miranda- im.org/showpost.php?p=186787&postcount=1969
forums.miranda-im.org/showpost.php?p=187003&postcount=1971
The first says something like this: “In the German forum, more and more users of version 0.7.19 report that they cannot connect to icq. The server reports that their version of ICQ is outdated. ... " .
In the second:“This problem is related to changes in the server that relate to efforts to cancel ICQ 6.0 and transfer clients to ICQ7. They are now in the process of updating all servers, so more and more users will be affected. Joe is working on a fix and I’m sure it will be available soon . ”
Then I decided to just wait a bit: Firstly, I have 0.8.1, and not 0.7. Yes, and if the problem does not go away by itself, then someone will report a solution. Moreover, alternative communication methods have long been established and the lack of ICQ does not interfere much.
But two days passed. No solution appeared, but another message appeared on the forum: forums.miranda-im.org/showpost.php?p=187317&postcount=1975
R (i) SK:“Joe, meanwhile, even users of 0.8.2 with the appropriate ICQ plugin report this problem”
Possible Solution: SSL Connection
Then I decided to try to figure it out myself. I worked around for about 10 minutes with different settings ... and suddenly the problem was solved by installing the Secure Connection (SSL) [experimental] jackdaw in Network-ICQ .
Moreover, after the first successful connection and the subsequent removal of the daw - everything is connected again without SSL!
What was it, Pooh? 8- \
I will write perhaps to the authors of the protocol ... let them check.
I publish on Habr maybe someone will be useful. There is practically no information on the topic.
Questions on the topic:
- Has anyone encountered this problem?
- Did this decision help?
UPD:
1. Judging by the comments, the problem exists. And for other alternative messengers including.
2. Possible solution: Login once from the official ICQ client. After that, the alternative client begins to work. (thanks Rifat )
*. And of course, do not leave ICQ as the only way to communicate. It is safer to have several options. :)
UPD2:
Time has passed and it seems the problem has gone away by itself. Nevertheless, if someone comes across in the future, I hope the proposed solutions will be useful. And another moment: as noted on the Miranda forum, SLL Login appeared only in version 0.8, so that for older versions only something like the “2” option is suitable.
