The XHTML 2 Working Group ends its work at the end of 2009. W3C throws all its power into HTML 5!

The official site w3.org just announced a sensational news.

Today, the W3C leader announced that after the end of 2009 of the Charter of the XHTML 2 working group , it (the Charter) will not be extended. All resources are transferred to the HTML5 Working Group . With this solution, the W3C hopes to accelerate the development of the new standard and clarify its position regarding the future of HTML .

The XHTML FAQ section will answer questions about the future results of the XHTML 2 Working Group, as well as the status of various discussions related to HTML. Learn more about HTML development here .

I’ll add from myself that in principle this should be expected in view of the lack of progress in the development of XHTML2. In fact, the development of XHTML itself has stalled, in my opinion, in IE6, which did not allow the standard to expand in a big way. And this, and the need to abandon backward compatibility in XHTML, had a great start.

It remains to rejoice at the fact that from now on we will all live according to a single charter and the eternal theme “XHTML vs. HTML is closed.
