How does it feel to work for “Ukrainian Pixar”

    I'll start from afar.

I had a dream to make cartoons, as soon as the guess was confirmed that they were still being made ... people ...

I had a dream to make cartoons on the computer, as soon as I realized that there was a tiny chance to beg him from my parents.

I had a dream to work at Pixar as soon as I found out about its existence.

Of course, "then," I still did not understand what it means to "work for a foreign company if you are a person with our mentality." But to be honest, I still know about this firsthand. But a dream is a dream, and you had to live with it. True, the pain did not last long - the dream came true. And, as always, it happened in such a way that you least suspect.

Once I was a little tired of exploring new composite materials, and I went for interviews. I didn’t go for long. I agreed to work on the first of them. As I remember now, at first I showed my work, and then they told me that we, i.e. they make a cartoon and showed the trailer. I also remember very well how I thought: "Shaw for garbage?" But he agreed to work - the cartoon had to be corrected, and, apparently, it was only me who knew.

Not that the graphics were bad, or the animation was useless - no, everything was perfectly visualized and animated. But the trailer itself was sooooo boring to watch.

After a short conversation about money, I was contented to rush home to please the family. As always, the euphoria of the salary amount passed as soon as I got out of the elevator. Thoughts began to budge in my head: “I had to ask more”, “I completely cheapened something”, “Somehow they suspiciously quickly agreed to my amount”, etc.

I went to work a day later, as agreed. Then I did not suspect that the cartoon that I will be making is a full-length, and even with an eye to the world premiere.

So this is the first time I got into a studio with a full division of labor. Here the artist draws characters “as it should be” in the pose of Discobolus (although I, other modelers from our studio and other modelers from around the world could not prove that I still need to draw in a T-shaped pose) Modellers who are trying their best to brush off when creating a sweep of texture UV coordinates. Pregnant texture workers - they draw insanely beautiful textures. Visualizers that are thin and tall as expected. The installer , who just yesterday was an animator, etc.

But of course, I learned about all this much later than on the first day of work. It usually takes me a long time to get into the team. So it happened this time. Until the day when I came to the studio in the morning and FIRST TIME yelled: "Yes, smile you, we are doing a cartoon!" - three months remained.

After waiting for the next part of the story, you will find out why only one modeler was supposed to stay at the studio, how the animation studio was arranged from the inside, why the employees did not see that they were making a funny cartoon and many other details.

The next part of the story is How It Works for “Ukrainian Pixar”. Part two
