Mozilla's Prism 1.0: Alpha Beta Called

imageLast week, Mozilla Labs announced the launch of beta version 1.0 of Prism and updated the site to facilitate this process.
Having played a little, I will try to identify the best and worst sides in this latest release.

Prism can be downloaded in two versions - as an application and as a plug-in for Firefox.

    Key and new features :
    • Access to the Web application from the desktop or OS X dock, that is, everywhere, in the form of a regular shortcut. The emphasis is on: “Now it is not necessary to launch a browser. Modern browsers are stable, but still Prism is more reliable and will not fall with Fox. ”
    • A new, but still raw API that will give sites made under Prism more opportunities for interacting with the desktop. For example, direct drag-and-drop, cross-links with a Web application and the like.
    • Custom fonts.
    • The ability to work through a proxy.
    • Clearing personal data
    • Automatic update (declared, but, in secret, while it works clumsily).
    • Startup "applications".
    • When working with RSS and mail - updating information in the tray, pop-up alerts.
    • SSL support (Stable only with Google and Mozilla certificates, Microsoft is not very good).

    Disadvantages:
    • In general, Cyrillic does not work at the setup stage. The name of the shortcut (second line) must be driven in English, and then renamed the shortcut to Russian (maybe this is just my problem).
    • In the application, at the moment, there is no installer. Do you think it is portable? No, all settings and links remain in the folders of the OS user.
    • The goodies described above, and even then not all, work only in the Fox plugin. In the application, almost nothing can be configured. More precisely, you can, but only dig deeper "inside." I like to customize everything for myself. I know for certain that scripts for the Griezanka will soon appear, which will partially solve the problem.

imageAnd now a little about the reasons why a raw product, read solid Alpha , suddenly, in a month, became Beta. As you know, the only active competitor is Google Chrome. Not having time to succeed before the release of the lame, the Prism was abandoned. At least I don’t know any Mozilla Labs programmer who worked on this project closely until May of this year.
And here begins the testing of Lame under OS X. Well, of course, all geek poppy drivers will try a new Prism.

I treat Google and Mozilla equally well, please do not look for bias in this post - this is just a matter of fact ( although I get a little more money from Google ).

I work in the Fox, but for now, I will make shortcuts from Lame.
