Music in iTunes Store rises in price since April 7

Starting April 7, the most popular tracks in the iTunes store will cost not 99 cents, but 30% more, that is, $ 1.29. Apple is forced to take such a step as a result of increasing pressure from record labels.

Thus, the original 99 cents per song model, which has looked beautiful and attractive since its introduction in 2003, is now spoiled. However, it is already not so important, because the online store has long reached enormous volumes (last year, sales of digital music in the United States exceeded $ 1 billion), and it does not particularly need further promotion.

Apple has not yet officially announced the date of price hike for songs, but as soon as it agreed with its partners from media corporations, they immediately told the press with pleasure .

However, there is good news. Since the model of a single price of $ 0.99 is now broken, Apple can not only increase, but also lower prices for individual tracks. Although the vast majority of the 10 millionth collection of iTunes songs will still keep the same price.

The decision to raise prices 30% was mixed, even among experts from the music industry. Some of them say that it is extremely unwise to raise prices during the recession, and now the iTunes Store will become even more difficult to compete with pirated sites.
