Alternative browser history navigation mechanism
A couple of months ago I had an idea how to improve navigation through the browser history. I want to share with the habrosociety.
The browser history is displayed in the form of a bar displaying the history in the form of a ruler - the minimum division of which is the transition from one page to another, and the maximum is the transition from one site to another. By analogy with the traditional ruler, the transition from one page to another is a millimeter division, and the transition to another site is displayed as a centimeter division, with the difference that on a traditional ruler all centimeter divisions are the same, and in this case the size of one division depends on how many pages The site was visited by a user. The divisions that indicate the transition to another site are indicated by the logo of the site (if there is one) above and the address of the site below. In addition to the divisions on the scale there is a starting point - the page on which the user is now located.

Navigation on the history scale is carried out using the slider, which moves the page’s address and name, and displays the contents of the page (the content is displayed instantly using a pre-prepared screenshot of the page). The principle of filling the story is the same as with traditional navigation buttons. As a more traditional method, using the drop-down menu, you can offer grouping of pages by sites, then it will be easier to search for the desired page in the story and the story will span a longer period of time. Also, a similar scale can be successfully applied to text and graphic editors, supplementing the undo and redo buttons. It was originally published here (in the sense I published :)
