Launching the social platform Y! OS 1.0

    A week ago, Yahoo presented to the public an updated version of the profiles : there was the opportunity to add friends, track their activity, various RSS feeds, etc. In fact, they are trying to turn a multimillion-dollar user base into a huge social network. Today, the company has taken the next step in the same direction by launching the open platform Yahoo! Open Strategy (Y! OS) 1.0 . It is about opening the Yahoo portal for all independent developers who want to create their own services based on it.

    As part of this initiative, software interfaces for social services Yahoo! Social Platform (YSP)(there is a PHP SDK and Flash SDK, standard OAuth and REST technologies are used), a platform for distributing Yahoo! Application Platform (YAP) and Yahoo! SQL-like Query Interface Query Language (YQL) .

    Now anyone can create their own web applications that will have direct access to the database and Yahoo tools. Through open APIs, you can receive information about profiles, contacts and user statuses of Yahoo.

    Integration of the new social platform into the basic services of the Yahoo portal will begin in 2009.
