Habrachat?
Perhaps many remember the times when the IRC protocol was at the peak of popularity - the main part of the Internet at that time was computer students (and not businessmen and housewives), the network existed, by and large, for the “chosen ones”. The chosen ones, due to the well-known features of their way of life (days and sleepless nights at the computer), urgently needed the opportunity to socialize, at least somehow compensate for the lack of real communication.
Yes, there were web chats, there were forums (ICQ does not count, talking about group communication), but the most advanced, in my opinion, was IRC.
According to the data known to me, the majority of the audience of the habr is precisely those whom 10 years ago it was customary to call the “chosen ones”, those whose main life goes through the computer. Therefore, there is a possibility that the idea of a habrachat based on the IRC protocol has some prospects. So ...
Without polls and long discussions, I took the liberty of raising an IRC server on my powerful dedicated server. To enter, we use the following details:
irc.habrachat.ru:6667 (6668 port for clients with UTF-8 support)
The general channel is #main. It is also not forbidden to create any channels you like.
It is customary to use mIRC as a client , but I recommend KVIrc, it is multi-platform, and also introduces some additional features into IRC communication (for example, the ability to use avatars). Details of client settings are discussed in the comments.
PS. In connection with recent interruptions in the work of the Habr’s, he almost climbed the wall. Chat at that time would be very out of place ...
UPD. Just now I remembered habrahabr@conference.jabber.ru - in fact, this is a matter of taste. I prefer IRC. Let there be a choice :)
