qutIM - maybe someone else is looking for his "perfect ICQ"?

When in December I said to myself: “Enough winds off me!” And climbed to Ubuntu 7.10, I, like many, probably began to suffer very much from the lack of a normal ICQ client. No jabber-surrogates did not suit me, do not even ask and do not kick. Kopete and Pidgin - fire. They still have not reached the functionality of either QIP or configured Miranda. It was a shame.

Well, what to do, naturally, I climbed into the crying forums. And of course, I was not the only one. Offered a lot: LICQ, SIM. Pidgin, Kopete, centerICQ, climm ... Oh my god, how many of them! And even if only one provided a normal list of opportunities!

Then there was QIP under WINE. I will not describe. Now it works better, yet WINErc5 is out.

After a torment, I climbed onto Pidgin. The following mantra helped: “X-statuses are fun for children, files are sent normally, metacontacts rule, HIG - 4Ever.”. I’m still sitting on it, its development curve suits me.

But just yesterday, another client was uploaded to qt-apps.org - qutIM (http://www.qt-apps.org/content/show.php/show.php?content=83269). This time, apparently, the creators decided to make a slightly improved interface QIP clone. And you know, they almost succeeded, despite version 0.1. X-statuses work, files are sent, the interface is not ugly, although it is worth working on it, there is no problem with the encoding (!!!).

Written in pure QT4. Perfectly picked up the topic QGTKStyle - and now is indistinguishable from any GNOME application.

And although I'm already very used to Pidgin, qutIM is still nice. I think the developers are on the right track - in the sense, the implementation path of the protocol and user requirements.

PS Kopete 4 - not needed. I do not need. I am a GNOME gadfly. I do not want to pull KDE4 libraries. Fundamentally. Not that app to plant a garden.

Upd. I forgot to say - it is necessary to compile. I have not yet collected the package myself, and now there is no time unfortunately. Therefore, to just test it, you need to install -dev QT4 packages and in the terminal give the command: qmake && make.

Upd.2 For those who do not yet know about the wonderful QGTKStyle I give the link: labs.trolltech.com/page/Projects/Styles/GtkStyle
I must say right away: Opera QT4 you won’t take with such a thing. But Skype, qutIM and many other QT4 applications - with a bang.

Upd.3 At the request of: this comment - habrahabr.ru/blog/linux/44533.html#comment917508 - compiled version.

Upd.4 As you have already noticed, you need the Most Important Update topic. So, the client’s offsite has opened: qutim.sourceforge.net

Upd.5 SVN is launched! Hooray, comrades!
    svn co qutim.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/qutim/qutim qutim
