Apple patents solar panels for portable devices

Displays for future devices will turn into batteries.

Manufacturers of portable equipment, improving and integrating durable solar panels into their products, have joined Apple. In its new patent application, Solar Powered For Portable Devices, Apple revealed plans to equip devices such as iPods and MacBooks with solar-powered batteries.

“Solar panels are usually made of transparent and opaque elements,” the patent explains. “Some transparent elements can be used to cover the display or keyboard of the device, applied in the form of a logo, or they can cover the entire device case with them (Motorola recently patented a similar technology).”

Although the effectiveness of today's solar panels and their production technologies cast doubt on the possibility of implementing this project, the idea itself is very interesting. At least, such batteries, as an additional battery, can successfully replace a battery that is discharged on the road, and thereby save the owner from unnecessary trouble.
