Next Gen PC Design Competition

    Original record: Dvice (Geeks around!)
    NextGenPCDesign

Sponsored by the giant Microsoft, the Next Gen PC Design Competition exhibition aims at participants to design the next-generation personal computers based on the Windows operating system. Judges reviewing participants' work take into account several factors:

    - Innovation .

    - Impressions of the user.

    - Aesthetics and usability of the device.

    - Possible (technologically) product release date .

This year, participants are designing devices that meet one simple idea: designing devices that "help people do what they are passionate about." This means that most of the devices are designed for: artists, designers, architects, programmers and "just" developers.

The open vote is already over and the results should be announced within this month. And even if we, Internet users, do not have the opportunity to vote, most of the devices without any doubt deserve thousands of curious looks. And right now you have the opportunity to stare at some of them.

    palette

This device, with the talking name Palette(The palette) is intended primarily for digital artists, designers (in the original, this life title sounds like: “design visualizer”, which literally can be translated as “specialist in design visualization”), and just art geeks. The device was designed on the basis of palettes that were used by masters several centuries before us. In addition, such an implementation of the palette carries a positive psychological charge - this is not at all the same with color matching in Photoshop or design in Fireworks.

The palette, according to the creators, should be connected to a computer, monitor or other peripheral devices. This connection, of course, is wireless, and the surface of the Palette uses a photo-optical color recognition sensor.

    personal computer

But this hand does not turn to call this invention a “device” for one simple reason - it is a harmonious combination of high-tech devices.

A biometric fingerprint scanner recognizes an authorized user and provide him with a workspace with all the saved files and settings, which, however, is not surprising. But as an additional option, it is possible to include a voice recognition program, with a huge library of saved commands. Once access has been obtained, laser technology using thin (a fraction of a millimeter) rays will display a two- and three-dimensional image of the highest resolution and color quality on two displays. A great solution for designers of any profile.

A high-power music system built into the “columns” will add a feeling of realism when working with any type of file. Since the image itself is not limited by the scope of the display, because it simply does not exist, the diagonal can be varied from 15 to 24 inches, and the maximum viewing angle is up to 80 degrees. All this is done by adjusting the rotation and power of the very columns between which the image appears.

    trvl

This device, called TRVL (from travel - travel) - is a personal computer concept for travelers, which will help to strengthen and easily capture any of your impressions. This computer has everything that can be useful to almost anyone on the road, the main functions are:

    1. Maps with the ability to GPS navigation.
    2. Travel Guide - an opportunity that any tourist will appreciate.
    3. Keeping notes and schedules.
    4. Videophone .
    5. Built-in photo / video camera .

Indeed, an innovation from all this can perhaps be called an electronic guide-navigator. The novelty itself lies in the fact that the computer displays information about the surrounding area on a transparent display, which means that the user will receive information by looking at him at any object in sight. This method is much faster and more efficient than using a standard, paper, map or navigation system, such as a smartphone.

Using TRVLpeople will travel easily, efficiently and as interestingly as possible.

    dna computer

The purpose of this device, called DNA (DNA), according to the creators, is to provide the user with a fully configurable and customizable personal computer, giving freedom of form, style and mobility.

One of the modules is the core of the system, which has outputs from all planes, allowing the user to connect devices at his request from any position. In addition to the main module, there are three more: a projector, a keyboard and a power supply.

Other modules, which, apparently, will be a great many, will be available additionally for a separate amount and in accordance with requests.

    flux

This "creation" is without a doubt a practical breakthrough at the level of presentation of a mobile personal computer. It’s called a Flux device .

The innovative form and design, the method of entering and storing information make this device truly compact, adaptive and fashionable. The entire system is based on a dressing bracelet that communicates wirelessly with a portable display. The bracelet stores information, while the display provides a large area for viewing files (yes anything), and connecting multimedia devices. A monitor is needed when you need to view a larger image or gain access to control the interface.

The entire system can also be connected to other computers via wireless, although the protocol to which it will be preferred is a big question.

Among other things - the display is very economical in energy consumption, made on the basis of touchscreen technology from environmentally friendly materials. The bracelet itself is individually customizable, and can be made of any materials of your choice. Here, the calculation, of course, is not only for the average user, but also for fans to boast.

    momenta

Moment(Momenta) is a personal computer that wears a bracelet around the neck and will also help capture the brightest moments of life. While everyone around laughs to tears from a successful joke, and someone says: “It was necessary to record”, the previous 5 minutes of video and audio recordings are already in the Moment buffer and it continues to record until the user will say stop recording.

The recording mode is also turned on in an interesting way - the computer determines the frequency of the heartbeat of its owner and turns on in moments of intensified experiences that could sink into oblivion without leaving any traces. Whether it’s an interesting sporting event, a scene from a life, any incident - it doesn’t matter, Moment will help you save and share it.

    Zenpc

Another interesting development called ZENdesigned to help, first of all, people with visual impairments.

By itself, it is a mixture of software and the latest technology, called the Sandbox PC , which can be translated as a “sandbox computer”. The drawer analogy is poorly visible, but the sand component is indeed present. Together with specially developed software, this system allows you to use a computer environment with your eyes closed.

The ZEN innovation lies in its very name, which stands for " Z-axis Enabled"and it’s a truly interactive three-dimensional software environment. You don’t just poke your monitor with a dirty finger; ZEN uses Active Surface technology (an active surface) - an electronic surface that can take various forms and is user-controlled. You can read Braille texts on it (perforated surface for the blind), to build working windows, icons and various textures. You can click or scratch it. All interaction between the user and the computer is done through tactile control Lenia.

People with limited visual abilities at the moment is almost completely unable to use a personal computer and ZEN gives them that opportunity.
