RIT-2008. My opinion

I come to RIT for the second time, as well as for the first time - my impressions are contradictory. As a programmer, I was not very interested in the relevant sections. In this regard, I think it will be necessary to go to PHPConf.

If the first conference seemed more “technological”, then this time I was more interested in “Success Story” and “Agile Russia”.

    From what I remember:

    • “Building a technical support service” by Dmitry Danilenko

As it seemed to me, the masterhost promoted. Maybe he did not set himself such a goal, but he made it so that everyone enjoyed it. In fact, he didn’t say much, just showed the “human face” of technical support, those who are on the other side of the interface. If you post a presentation, you can see who answers you letters or in the phone, and if you wish, "call the third one on the left."

On the topic of technical support and service: I recommend reading and re-reading the Seven Steps to a wonderful customer service  - I was inspired.

    • I tried to look at Agile whenever possible. I was pleased with most of the reports that I could look at.

It seemed to me that this is where you can find the key to the motivation of programmers, which many managers unsuccessfully try to find.

    • Unfortunately, I did not get into the blitz reports. Maybe someone  sums up.

    • Dmitry Neyaglov ’s presentation Layout system as a finite state machine” was very pleased and interested .

An interesting look at the method of designing and presenting information. I will definitely try it.

    • Of course I went to  Startup Lynch  - you never need to look for an investor. However, probably, I was not the only one who thought so - a full room was full.
I watched how the teams presented their projects. From the side, much is visible. It seemed that people were trying to sell something  - a lot of emotions, you can hardly understand what kind of service it is and what good it is. Therefore, they joked and asked practical questions:
      - for whom do you work,
      - why will they buy it,
      - how are you better than your competitors,
      - how you will earn money,
      - what you have already done, which team,
      - how you will develop further

I introduced myself as an investor, that I need to choose who to give my money to. I quickly understood the validity of these questions and the absurdity of some speeches. He concluded - before going to the investor, prove that you  are worth something . Better yet, already have sales. That is, if you go for money, then clearly imagine for what, why and how much money is needed. And most importantly - how this money will bring even more money. For, as the representative of Finam rightly remarked, one should think not about how to receive, but about how to return.

Therefore, deservedly, more attention was paid to  Megaplan and Qefir (an analogue of skilopedia.ru ). They already have something to show, they have a team, sales.

The idea of RusTV seemed interesting to me(TV for IT people - to twist training / informational videos, something for free, something for money), just a representative could not intelligently describe his service and its advantages and, to a greater extent, was slipping into agitation. It seems that only one Maxim Spiridonov from Royber became interested in this team. Or maybe not, memory is cheating on me.

    • As always, Igor Ashmanov collects a full house - he talks about  his experience , about real things that have value. This is exactly what I would like to see more at the conference.

Summarizing - the reports were a bit weak (from what I could see, I ran between halls 3 and 4) As always, I would like more concrete examples: how we did it, what difficulties we encountered and how we overcame them. For knowledge of the theory usually does not help, and sometimes even vice versa.

Of course, you can scold or praise the quality and selection of reports.
But, it seems to me, the essence of the conference is not that. Simply, this is the place where everyone will receive, exactly what he is "ready" to receive. There were enough people and information at the conference so that the interested person would not leave with nothing.
