China began to destroy video hosting

As promised , China has begun to close video hosting sites that have not undergone state licensing. Under the new rules, UGC videos can be published on the Chinese Internet only to public websites or private websites that are under state control, and only after obtaining a special license. The license must be renewed every three years. Hosting providers are required to independently remove the "illegal" video from their servers and inform the state about these cases. The new rules came into effect on January 31, 2008.

And now state censors issued the first orderaccording to which 25 sites with UGC video are subject to closure, and another 32 sites will undergo an investigation procedure within two months, after which they can be punished. One of the country's largest video hosting sites, Tudou.com, has also received a warning.

Some of the sites that are threatened with closure have a daily audience of up to 100 million people, which is comparable to the audience of state television in China.
