Pakistan Internet Service Provider Deprives World of Access to YouTube for Two Hours

Following a recent break in Amazon services, YouTube video hosting has suffered a similar fate - but this time through no fault of its own.

According to a report on the OpenDNS website, “The Pakistani telecommunications company decided (probably by accident) to seize the IP address space of YouTube” - because of which, according to a video hosting representative, both the site itself and numerous videos on third-party resources were unavailable for two hours . Shortly before this, a message was posted in the news feedsthat the government of Pakistan ordered all providers in the country to block access to YouTube because of the “blasphemous content” of some of the videos posted on it, for example, animated films about the Prophet Muhammad, which outraged many Muslims. And it’s quite possible that fulfilling this order, the Pakistani provider PieNet mistakenly “assigned” addresses that didn’t belong to it, which immediately affected the work of the Google-owned video service.

But, as TechCrunch rightly observes , “is it really that simple to“ put ”one of the largest web services in the world?”
