Not much was accumulated for each, but the money had to be transferred somehow. Some writers who contacted the owner of the library refused , because the amounts are actually ridiculous, and the books are there without their permission. Leonid Kaganov also refused (who, in addition to collecting money for street musicians , also writes books). But he refused for a completely different reason, which cannot but arouse respect.

But I always have to refuse a real transfer, because I once vowed from superstition to never accept money from grateful readers, because, firstly, it is very unfair (to take money only from noble readers and not to take money from greedy), -second, publishers must pay money exclusively to the author, and any metaphysical precedent can upset this fragile balance. I recommend reading the entire dialogue on the above site. By the author's political and ethical principles Kaganova can be treated differently, but, as I said, they can not command respect, especially today.
