The Russian video portal Rutube.ru has begun to create its own basic network of proxy nodes across the country to increase the speed of downloading videos, reduce the cost of traffic for subscribers of local operators and ensure uninterrupted operation of the service. In principle, this system resembles the classical CDN network (content delivery network), and in the future Rutube.ru may well be engaged in this business, especially in Russia there is no Akamai, and there is a demand for such a service.
On October 1, a dedicated server cluster was launched at Comstar-Direct's facilities for Stream subscribers, which significantly accelerated their access to Rutube.ru content and increased the service availability for subscribers of other operators due to higher connectivity (including . foreign) provided by Comstar-Direct.
Previously, agreements were signed on the deployment of similar nodes at the facilities of Sakh-9 (Sakhalin and the Far East) and ER-Telecom (Chelyabinsk) telecom operators.
