After reports of the sale of the millionth Apple iPhone in America by the beginning of September, it was logical to expect from Apple new products that exploit the theme of the touch screen with a distinctive interface and support for MultiTouch. The first such product was not slow to follow - it turned out to be a "touch" modification of the popular player - Apple iPod Touch. However, it seems that the iPhone theme development will not be limited to this product - there have already been rumors about Apple working on an ultra-mobile laptop.

According to Appleinsider.com, a source close to Apple said that over the past 1.5 years, a small group of Apple engineers have been developing a new generation of handheld computers - a modern version of Apple’s Newton PDA, which died in the 1990s. After the successful launch of the iPhone, work on a new project using the same multi-touch technology intensified. It is assumed that the official announcement of the new items will be made in the first half of 2008.

Little is known about the ultra-mobile computer. A source said that the device will look like an iPhone, but not have a vertical, but horizontal orientation. In size, the novelty will be 1.5 times larger than the iPhone with the same thickness, and almost the entire front panel will be occupied by a touch screen that supports MultiTouch technology and has a resolution of 720x480 pixels. According to the source, ultra-mobile computers should become the fifth pillar of Apple's business (after iMac, iPod, iPhone, Apple TV).

Well, the current head of Apple, Steve Jobs, is famous for his sensitivity to market requirements, so the release of all new innovations on the crest of the resounding success of the iPhone is quite likely. However, it was unlikely that the "information leak" was unplanned - we recall that between the announcement of the iPhone in January and its launch in June, not a single live photo of the new product appeared, as is often the case with mobile devices of other brands. Therefore, most likely, we are talking about probing the soil and assessing the readiness of the market for the appearance of a “big iPhone”. For now, we can only wait for new information.
