Acer acquires Gateway
Taiwanese company Acer announced the acquisition of Gateway, an American manufacturer of personal computers. After the transaction is completed (most likely it will be December 2007), Acer will be able to beat Lenovo's competitors and become the world's third-largest PC maker.
Under the terms of the agreement, Acer will spend about $ 710 million on takeover. Each share of Gateway will cost a Taiwanese company $ 1.9, which is 57% higher than the market value of securities. But Acer’s leadership does this, as entering the US market will provide the combined company with revenue of about $ 15 billion a year. And the effect of the joint venture will bring both companies at least $ 150 million before taxes.
