The world's first DisplayPort monitor

Samsung has announced the release of the world's first monitor with a new DisplayPort video interface. Perhaps in the near future DisplayPort (among other things, approved by the VESA - Video Electronics Standards Association) will become a replacement for the "obsolete" DVI, LVDS, and VGA interfaces.

The new Samsung monitor has a screen diagonal size of 30 inches and works with a maximum WQXGA resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels. The display uses an S-PVA type matrix with excellent viewing angles (180 °, no less) and a brightness of 300 cd / sq.m. The monitor is capable of displaying 16777000 shades of color, its contrast is 1000: 1, and the claimed response time is 6 ms.

As for the new interface, the 30-inch monitor with such a high resolution is just perfect for demonstrating its capabilities. The fact is that the main advantage of DisplayPort is its very high data transfer rate (up to 10.8 Gb / s). And this is two times higher than any interfaces used today in consumer electronics. This speed is enough to make a picture with a resolution of 2560 × 1600 look great and clear.

The new Samsung will not go on sale soon (second quarter of 2008). The cost of the device has not yet been named by the company, but something tells me that it will not be modest at all.
