Virtual Sport was nearly banned

Sports fans familiar with the Internet have probably heard of web resources that allow you to create virtual teams from real players for a small fee. Based on the statistics on the achievements of each athlete at the end of the game season, the best team is selected from the set of created teams, and its owner receives a reward.

Not so long ago, this sporty idyll was nearly ruined by a Humphrey lawsuit against Viacomin which the plaintiff accused CBS Corporation, CBS Television Network, SportsLine.com, Walt Disney Company, ESPN, Hearst, Vulcan, Vulcan Sports Media and The Sporting News of violating the gambling law. Calling the contribution for creating a new virtual team a bet, and the system itself a gamble, the accusing party tried to fine the organizers of this kind of entertainment for a tidy sum. Fortunately, the judge did not find anything illegal in the activities of online sports sites.
