12 years education

    The educational institution was asked as a homework to answer the question: “How do you feel about  compulsory 12-year school education ?”

    Answering this question, I will try to sort everything out “on the shelves”. But, of course, there will not be a definite answer :) So ...

    Goals

    After looking for information about the goals of the subject, I was surprised to find that there are no specific goals. It seems that the Ministry of Education is blindly imitating the West and is not reporting on its actions.

    We make the banal assumption that in this way the government is trying to take care of the younger generation and increase the average intellectual and cultural levels of development of graduates.

    Let's see what people who will realize this idea are most likely to come across ...

    Quantity = quality?

    It is believed that children will become smarter if they study not in the 11th grade, as they are now, but in 12. I believe that this is far from the case ...

    The thing is that the increase in the duration of education is not based on a corresponding improvement in the quality of education, that is staffing and reasonable financing.

    It is depressing that today many graduates of the 9th grade (due to the inability to enter higher education institutions and get a relatively good education) go to pedagogical colleges (colleges, etc.), finish their studies and start working in schools. It is no secret that during this training, most students not only dishonestly study, but also completely forget who they actually study for. And such people teach children ... Therefore, it is necessary to take this problem very seriously, but we have “turned a blind eye” to it.

    This is regarding the personnel problem. And now about financing ... What kind of improvement in the quality of education can we talk about when a "tiny" share of the budget is spent on education, a huge part of the funds "settles" in the pockets of officials, and sometimes even wasted on things not directly related to training? An example of the latter: recently, a new stand with an alphabet was brought to the office of my native language (I don’t specifically mention the language, because I think it is inappropriate here), and, it should be noted, it’s not bad decorated. Everything would be fine, but the old blackboard, in my opinion, fully performed its functions: after all, the letters on it were read, and the students could very well use it. Question: why did you need to bring a new stand, overloaded with the original “design”? This money could be spent, for example, on textbooks (in addition to the alphabet, they brought a bunch of useless stands) or audio or video materials for viewing in the lesson (they do not even need to be bought for each student, unlike textbooks). But no ... the new alphabet design is above all! This is just one example of the misuse of funds allocated to education. And so throughout the country ...

    I would advise the government, and especially the Ministry of Education, first of all to think about how much money is allocated to the school (here the word "school" is used as the general name of such educational institutions), how they are spent and look towards the personnel problem, before Engage in meaningless “buildup” of the number of required classes.
