Free Cellular Communication - It’s Started!
Last week, the pan-European mobile virtual operator Blyk entered into an agreement with Nokia Siemens Networks. The Finnish telecommunications company will be engaged in the construction and hosting of the cellular network, saving the operator from the need to invest in infrastructure. Blyk subscribers will be young people aged 16 to 24 years.
Users will be able to make calls and send text messages without any charge. The project will be financed through advertising: subscribers will regularly receive advertisements on their cell phones.
The commercial launch of the services of the virtual operator Blyk will first take place in the UK, this will happen this summer. By the end of 2007, the company intends to enter the markets of other European countries.
Blyk was established in 2006 by Pekka Ala-Pietila, the former head of the Finnish concern Nokia, and Antti Orling. Operator offices today are based in Helsinki and London. Blyk executives say the project has no analogues in the world. However, a similar model of a virtual network focused exclusively on youth is already being developed in the USA.
