China has created the largest online citizenship identity database

Although the US is still worried about the Real ID Act regarding the creation of an internal identifier for standardizing a driver’s license, China has already created the largest online database of citizen identifiers that the government believes will prevent fraud.

Quote from the English part of the Xinhua site:
Now anyone can request information or visit the website of the country's information center to check the name, identifier of the person of interest to him. If the parameters match, you will see the name identifier, as well as a photo of the owner of the identifier. According to the statement of the responsible ministry, no other additional data is provided and cannot be submitted, which guarantees the confidentiality of citizens' data. By the end of 2006, the Chinese citizen database was the largest in the world and contained personal information of 1.3 billion citizens. Public access to the database is also provided to facilitate the correction of errors in personal data.
