Portable device for reading newspapers and books
Companies Telecom Italia and Polymer Visiongoing to demonstrate at the 3GSM World Congress 2007, which will be held from February 12 to 15 in Barcelona, a joint product. This Cellular-Book is a mobile device with a sweeping display. It is primarily intended for reading newspapers, books, and other similar data. This portable solution is based on the Readius concept developed by Polymer Vision. It is equipped with a 5-inch display, which is able to deploy. The screen displays 16 levels of gray color on a light background with high contrast. The Cellular-Book display, according to manufacturers, provides readability comparable to a paper book. Screen backlighting is not provided, so reading in the dark will not work. But, according to manufacturers, the device works great in bright sunlight. The size of the Cellular-Book is slightly smaller than the size of a conventional cell phone. Data can be transferred to the device via the Telecom Italia network in EDGE / UMTS standards, as well as using Wi-Fi and connecting to mini-USB. According to manufacturers, the device’s energy consumption is so low that it can last 10 days without charging the battery. Cellular-Book price information has not yet been received. In the future, it is planned to develop a display capable of displaying color and moving pictures.
