Newspapers invested another $ 15 million in Topix.net

The news aggregator Topix.net received additional investments from its own shareholders.

Gannett, Tribune and McClatchy, which owns most of the shares of the web resource (33.7%, 33.7% and 11.9%, respectively), decided to invest another $ 15 million in it. According to Chris Tolles, vice president of sales and marketing at Topix, the money will be spent on sales and hiring staff (over the next year, the company’s team, with only 25 employees, will be doubled).

Topix.net, founded in 2002, not only collects news from the Internet, but also categorizes them. In addition, this year, users of the resource got the opportunity to publish comments on notes selected by the aggregator, writes News.com .
