North-West Telecom will connect up to 70 thousand ADSL subscribers by the end of the year
The number of OJSC North-West Telecom (NWT) subscribers using the Internet access service using ADSL technology will increase by the end of 2006 to 70 thousand subscribers, of which 50 thousand in St. Petersburg, the company’s press release reports.
One of the main projects of 2006 for North-West Telecom is the provision of broadband Internet access services. At NWT telephone exchanges, xDSL equipment with a capacity of more than 90 thousand lines was installed in all branches of the company, of which 34 thousand lines (37%) were involved. As of July 1, 2006, the number of users with dedicated Internet access, including using ADSL technology, was approximately 33 thousand, which is several times higher than the same indicator as of July 1, 2005 (4 thousand users). The six-month increase in ADSL subscribers amounted to more than 24 thousand.
