An online catalog of birch bark letters is being created in Novgorod

In Veliky Novgorod, as part of the celebrations dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the first birch bark letters, a presentation of an international scientific project on creating an electronic catalog of letters will take place.

As Interfax was informed in the Committee for Culture and Tourism of the Novgorod Region, digitized images of about 950 birch bark letters of the 11th-15th centuries, accompanying texts in Old Slavonic and modern Russian languages will be presented on the website . The project will be fully completed in 2007, when accompanying texts in English appear and a CD with information about medieval letters will be released.
