Microsoft is working on IE8, Mozilla has decided on Firefox 3

According to activewin.com, Microsoft is working on the next version of its browser - IE8.

The final version should be expected no earlier than in one and a half to two years. It is likely that the working prototype will not be demonstrated earlier than at the Microsoft Mix '07 conference, which will be held in late April. Although most likely, an alpha version already exists.

CSS support is likely to be improved. Also, the IE development team made a list based on the wishes of users. Some of them are clearly inspired by Firefox.

The Mozilla Foundation has identified a preliminary list of technical requirements for Firefox 3.0.
The list is divided into mandatory, highly desirable, “it would not be nice to have” and requirements that will be transferred to future versions.

    Some are required:
Better print version support, Microsoft CardSpace and OpenID support, improved interaction with add-ons, an MSI installer for company administrators to manage installations , etc.

    Some of the desirable ones:
transferring the help online, the ability to save pages to PDF with integrated with history, support for microformats , etc.

For non-figs, I’ll note a simplified file upload (and where is even easier?) And the ability to install extensions without restarting the browser.

Firefox is expected to release in the third / fourth quarter of 2007. A 4 versionaccording to the plans of the company is due out in 2008.
