Microsoft stops supporting classic desktop version of Skype from November 1

Microsoft has announced for the second time that it has stopped supporting the desktop version of Skype (7.0). For the first time, the company reported that the old version of the messenger will stop working in September. But then, after hundreds of thousands of people asked not to do this, the date was postponed.

However, not for long - now the company notified Skype users that for the classic version it will all end on November 1. Well, from November 15, the corporation will stop supporting a similar version for mobile devices and tablets.

It seems that nothing can be done already, although one of the users of the desktop version launched a collection of signatures in support of the idea of leaving the program alive at least for “professional” users. At the moment, about 1200 signatures have been collected.

In its blog, the Redmond corporation stated that it continues to work on the most important and sought-after features of the messenger. “Recently we added call recording, now we are gradually finalizing the search function within the dialogue. Some time later, you can add phone numbers to existing contacts, and also get a little more control tools, including status, ”say the Skype developers.

The eighth version of Skype was introduced in 2017. Then the service received new functions, including the “Stories” analogue, from which it was decided to get rid of over time. The developers conducted and redesigned applications at the request of users. In particular, the buttons for calling the list of contacts, call and messages are omitted in the lower part of the display, which allows you to get quick access to these two functions. With the mobile version did the same.
