BitNotarize suggests using blockchain instead of notary public

In mid-December, a startup called Ubitquity LLC launched an alpha version of a new notary platform based on the BitNotarize blockchain . The platform will allow users to download, certify and store their documents on the blockchain. The platform features can be used in parallel with traditional notary services to simplify and facilitate workflow.

The new platform provides a range of notarial services on the blockchain, which you can use without leaving your workplace. Users will also be able to sign documents directly in the open register. The platform can be used as an addition to the traditional notary system - for greater security and reliability. Nathan Vosnak, head of Ubitquity, said the company is actively concluding cooperation agreements with electronic notarial services, with the goal of creating a digital association of notarial companies, with the support of US authorities.

Together with electronic notarial services, which are officially accredited notarial representations, we are able to achieve even greater reliability and security of documents. Thanks to the blockchain, we can provide users with a 100% guarantee of the authenticity of a certified and signed document.

    Legal Aspects

The notarial platform seems to be an interesting undertaking - if it is really able to save users from the notarial routine. If the project can be implemented in its intended quality, it can gain popularity in the business world.

However, some legal experts are inclined to believe that the BitNotarize project may have problems interacting with official notary services. Adam Waziri, a legal expert in the field of technical innovations, believes that there will almost certainly be difficulties in legalizing the decisions of private notaries in other countries:

In accordance with the Hague Convention, there is an established system of legalization of notarial documents, within the framework of which a stamp called apostille is used. The introduction of such an element as an “electronic signature” is not an easy task that will require the intervention of political forces.

In addition, the notary services have their own regulatory agencies that establish certain rules for the work of a notary. The implementation of the blockchain in this structure is still in question, the expert believes.

At the same time, if BitNotarize can solve the key problem with the recognition of electronic signatures as part of the notarial process, their service can greatly simplify notarial services and make them more convenient.

    Reminds me of BitNation?

Susanne Tarkovsky-Templehoff believes that BitNotarize is just a copy of Bitnation .

Recall that on December 1, 2015, the Bitnation project announced the launch of a program to provide notarial services to its Estonian online residents. The project is supported by the Estonian government e-Residency program. According to the official Bitnation blog, the program will provide almost the full range of notarial services.

Residents, regardless of their place of residence and occupation, will be able to notarize on the blockchain wedding or birth certificates, business contracts, and much more
    - the Bitnation blog.

Program Director Caspar Korjus noted that the Estonian program will mark the beginning of a standard practice of competition of notarial services in the international market and will give people the opportunity to exercise the right to self-determination and follow the path of Bitnation to independence.

Based on the blockchain technology, the Bitnation platform allows the provision of traditional public services in a decentralized and geographically free manner.

The Bitnation platform is the first example of such a close-knit interaction between the blockchain company and government agencies. The Law on Electronic Residents was adopted in Estonia in 2014 and gives foreign citizens the right to receive an electronic identification card. The presence of such a card allows you to legally interact with state authorities of the country via the Internet.

Susan Tarkowski is not afraid of competition with the new Ubitquity platform, as he believes that the main common goal is to build a model where hundreds and thousands of competing services offer public services, competing in quality and price, rather than feeding and strengthening monopolies, based on coercion.
