In Roskomnadzor, a meeting was held with ordinary Wikipedia users

Last night, as previously reported , a meeting with Wikipedia representatives was held in Roskomnadzor. The meeting was attended by experts, representatives of the Federal Drug Control Service and Rospotrebnadzor. At the same time, members of the non-profit partnership Wikimedia RU, who usually speak on behalf of the Russian-speaking Wikipedia community, were not invited to the meeting.

Instead, “active Wikipedia participants” received invitations, the point of view of which, according to representatives of Roskomnadzor, differs from the point of view of “Wikimedia RU”. At the same time, the department is confident that the majority of “healthy” participants are in favor of establishing links between the online encyclopedia and the state, writes Tjournal.

One of the "active members of Wikipedia" was a user with the nickname Samal. He was considered one of the Wikipedia administrators at Roskomnadzor, although this user is no longer an administrator .

Nevertheless, Samal is in favor of introducing something like self-censorship on Wiki: “I’m watching what happens, for example, with the article“ Cocaine ”, and for me this does not look completely clear. For me, it looks like the Russian Wikipedia is doing everything in order to bring matters to a block. Moreover, it seems that some participants will not understand that they themselves brought the matter to this. What ideas are there what to do in such a situation? Or nothing, we just observe, from the series “One Hundred Thousand Lemmings Can't Mistake”?

According to Samal, the agency plans to hold another meeting, this time with a large number of participants. The goal is cooperation with the Russian-language segment of Wikipedia on an ongoing basis. It is voiced as follows: “Now they have a request for yet another wiki article (they showed me a link to it, I rewrote it, but they asked me not to voice it publicly yet, to whom it is important - I can send it by wiki by mail). In short, they are in favor of establishing a stable permanent channel and clear rules of the game. ”

In addition to Samal, three more Wikipedia users came to the meeting, including Starless. Thanks to these users, controversial drug articles were edited and Wikipedia blocked. From the side of state bodies, Alexander Zharov, the head of the department, experts from Roskomnadzor on child pornography, as well as the leadership of the relevant departments of the Federal Drug Control Service and experts of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare participated in such matters as suicide.

As for the representatives of Wikimedia RU, they were initially invited to a meeting, but after a while the invitation was canceled.

A spokesman for Roskomnadzor also expressed the opinion of the agency regarding Wikimedia RU: “Representatives of Wikimedia RU have repeatedly voiced their position. This position is unconstructive and simply stupid. Moreover, they do not solve anything. They have arrogated to themselves the right to speak on behalf of the entire community, although they broadcast the views of the minority. ”

Roskomnadzor gave an assessment to the users who took part in the meeting: “It's nice to know that there are people on the Wikipedia side who are ready for a constructive dialogue and interaction to resolve contentious issues.”

Well, so far they won’t block Wikipedia (they are still evaluating edited articles on drugs in the relevant department), but this story is clearly far from over.
