Unboxing Nexus 5X
On September 29, Google held a presentation of the new version of the Android operating system and introduced several new devices, among which there were 2 phones - Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. It is difficult to conceal the awl in a bag, so by the beginning of the presentation, most interested people more or less accurately imagined what the new phones look like and what is inside them. By the end of September, I had been intensively picking up a phone for several weeks to replace the old Samsung Galaxy SIII. Although there were many worthy candidates (Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4, Sony Xperia Z5, Moto X Pure Edition 2015, etc.), I could not come to the final choice. Therefore, I met the presentation with considerable attention. After its completion, it became clear that the Nexus 6P is the new flagship of the company, but the Nexus 5X remained a dark horse. I liked everything about Nexus 6P, with the exception of one parameter - the size of the phone. I was not ready for the “shovel” in my relatively small palm. Therefore, after several hours of another comparison of various phones, my choice fell on the Nexus 5X.
A few weeks after the official presentation of the new phones, on October 19, Google began sending out pre-ordered phones, and two days later I received my copy.
The packaging turned out to be rather ascetic and discreet, but at the same time it didn’t scare the view of the unpainted cardboard.
The packaging inside was similar to the exterior. The package
didn’t catch the imagination.
In addition to the phone itself, there was a powerful charger in the box - 15W (5V / 3A), USB Type-C cable < -> USB Type-C, a reminder from the free 3 months of Google Music, a guarantee and a tool for removing the SIM card.
Even the phone itself was wrapped in a matte-white film.
The dimensions of the phone were a little scary.
The camera lens stands out on the back cover, it also houses an autofocus sensor, an LED flash with a variable color temperature and a fingerprint scanner.
At the bottom there is a USB Type-C connector, a microphone and a headphone jack. Behind the speaker's decorative grille is an RGB LED that can be used to alert you to various events.
At the top there is only a noise reduction microphone, and between the end and the display there is a proximity sensor, a speaker and a front 5MP camera.
On the left side there is only a tray with a nanoSIM card.
On the right side is the on / off button and volume rocker.
Comparison of the good old Samsung Galaxy SIII and Nexus 5X
The phone turned out to be completely different than what appeared in the photographs. Firstly, it is quite large in size. Secondly, the quality and tactile feel of the plastic case turned out to be extremely positive. Yes, this is not metal, but I can’t say that tactilely this phone loses to the flagships GS6 and LG G4.
The transition from Android 4.4 to Android 6.0 has not yet caused much trouble, during the initial setup of the phone, an update of 42Mb has already arrived. The fingerprint scanner recognizes the attached finger almost instantly, though due to the high grip, the finger periodically falls not on the scanner, but on the camera lens.
The main concerns after acquiring the phone are finding a good USB Type-C to Type-A cable that can withstand several amperes along the power lines and looking for a high-quality case (this is a must-have accessory for small children in the house). The UAG case has already saved my phone several times, but, unfortunately, they do not produce cases for the Nexus 5X yet.
