10 tricks with Chromecast that will change your idea of the device

For owners of Chromcast, and those who are still looking at it, we painstakingly put together 10 of the coolest tricks that change the idea of the device.

    1. You can pause content broadcast from Chromecast using your TV remote control.

Google recently rolled out a software update for Chromecast that adds support for pause / play video using a television remote control.
Although you still need to use your smartphone, tablet or browser on your computer in order to select and send content to TV, during playback you get rid of the need to hold your portable device in your hands in order to pause playback.
The new feature uses HDMI-CEC, which is an extension of the HDMI protocol, and allows your TV to send signals to Chromecast with updated software.
Currently, not all applications support this feature, for example, while Netflix does not support it. But there is every reason to believe that support in applications is only a matter of time.

    2. You can run Quake® III on your TV with Chromecast.

On Google I / O 2015, the new Google Cast Remote Display API was announced for Android and iOS, which will allow developers of applications and games with powerful graphics to transfer the image to Chromecast. Google took the existing Android port of Quake III Arena, and finalized it for use with Chromecast. You can control it from a smartphone, but you can also use Bluetooth or a USB joystick, or the usual keyboard and mouse. Say the idea is useless? I know people for whom Quake III support will be the final argument for the purchase. I myself am so :).

    3. You can use Chromecast without a Wi-Fi router.

The idea is very simple, turn on the mobile access point on your smartphone and connect Chromecast to it. Of course, this will require significant mobile traffic, but you can come up with a variety of user cases. Suddenly help out.

    4. You can stream one desktop to multiple Chromecast devices

The solution is not very elegant, but working. You need to create several profiles in Google Chrome (by the number of devices) and broadcast from each profile. One of the users shares his success on the simultaneous broadcast to 7 devices. For all kinds of rally rooms, and presentations, this can be useful. Of course, all devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

    5. Presentations from GoogleDrive can be sent directly to Chromecast

    Truly cloudy presentation!

    6. Play Dandy on a big TV set without Dandy herself

Use some online emulator of retro consoles like emugames.ru and play to your health.
In fact, I'm jokingly trying to explain the following. Look more broadly, everything that you see in the browser, you can broadcast on Chromecast, show your imagination, and you will come up with a dozen similar user cases.

    7. Do-it-yourself digital photo frame

Use the LCD panel from a broken laptop and LVDS-HDMI controller with Chromecast to create a digital super frame for photos.

7.5 Connect your digital photo frame from step 7 to Instagram

Use the CastOnTV Instagram program to have your frame display Instagram photos. For the TV, too, will do!

    8. Play local video on your Chromecast

Play your local videos through Chrome and send to Chromecast. To do this, specify a local path of type
    file:///C:/Users/whiteman/Desktop/MAH02560.MP4

and send the tab to your Chromecast. Fairly old and obvious trick, but suddenly someone does not know.

    9. Using a VPN, you can make Chromecast work with devices that are not on the same Wi-Fi network.

Here it is necessary to figure out how to follow, and this is perhaps the topic for a separate article. But all of a sudden, someone and just ideas and Google will be enough.
