Homemade smart mirror shows notifications with Android Wear

Android Wear watches are an assistant to a modern person, providing constant information support to their owner (sending notifications from a smartphone, fitness functions, etc.). But what if the smart watch is on the shelf at home, and now there is no way to put it on, and you need to receive notifications? Then Nicholas Noth comes to the rescue with his Smart Mirror project . Its mirror shows all notifications with Android Wear.
The mirror itself is a one-way mirror glass on the monitor, which is connected with an HDMI cable to the smartphone, although, according to Nicholas, you can use the Raspberry Pi mini-PC.
His initial goal was to create a system that would display a notification of the end of a watch’s charge on Android Wear. It is clear that this is, for the most part, a project just for fun, but the idea is really interesting. And at the very beginning, all that skillfully mirrors is to show a message about the end of charging a smart watch.
Now the capabilities of Smart Mirror are significantly expanded, and the device can display other information - for example, from a smartphone. The plans include adding the ability to demonstrate incoming text messages or other types of notifications, checking the weather, information on matches and other functions.
The total cost of the entire project at the moment was $ 500:
- LED IPS panel - $ 300;
- Speakers - 75;
- Installation system and materials - 25;
- Single-sided glass - 50;
- Presentation materials - 50.
